February brings a diverse wave of new PC game releases, spanning genres from point-and-click adventures to space strategy and even…autopsies on little green men. Monday, February 16th saw the launch of several titles, with more arriving throughout the week. This influx provides a broad spectrum of experiences for PC gamers, though some descriptions lean towards the…unconventional.

Intriguing Indies and Established Franchises

Leading the charge on Monday is Book Smugglers, a point-and-click adventure set in 19th-century Tsarist Lithuania. The game centers around the clandestine circulation of forbidden texts, offering a narrative-driven experience. Also released today is Stormbridge, a unique blend of tower defense and city building. Players are tasked with constructing a settlement that extends horizontally while simultaneously defending against an encroaching tempest. For those seeking a more tactical experience, Dobbel Dungeon offers turn-based combat where character actions are determined by dice rolls, adding an element of randomization.

Early access title Astrobotanica presents a puzzle and survival game with a prehistoric twist. Players take on the role of an extraterrestrial botanist studying Earth’s past, encountering both Neanderthals and dodos. A decidedly different experience is offered by Alien Morgue, a game focused on performing autopsies on extraterrestrial beings – a far cry from interacting with Neanderthals.

Zelda-Inspired Puzzlers and Ritualistic Chaos

Moving into Tuesday, February 17th, Under The Island arrives as a top-down dungeon puzzler clearly inspired by the classic Zelda series. The game features six biomes and a mechanic where slashing grass reveals hidden health hearts. Ritual Party takes a more chaotic approach, tasking players with performing a hellish ritual as a group of friends – or perhaps something else entirely. The developers are reportedly seeking a more palatable term than “friendslop” to describe the group dynamic, considering alternatives like “Overcookie” and “Lethalcomp”.

Strategy, Space, and Suspicious Card Games

Wednesday, February 18th brings a mix of genres, including Blank, a platformer set in a cavernous origami world, and Kill The Witch, a 2D action platformer currently in early access. Strategy fans have two options: The Killing Stone, an “Inscryptic confection” involving a cursed board game and a noble family, and Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, a strategy management game based on the television series. For those interested in space sims, FUR Squadron Phoenix offers a unique experience.

A Diverse Friday Finale

The week culminates on Thursday, February 19th and Friday, February 20th with a diverse selection of titles. PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid’s Curse is a mystery horror novel-inspired game, while Demon Tides is an expressive platformer reminiscent of the Nintendo 64/GameCube era. Styx: Blades Of Greed offers more goblin stealth action, Love Eternal blends horror and platforming elements, and Key Fairy presents a unique “hand-drawn, pacifist, bullet-hell” experience. Even a turd collection game, Nightsoil, makes an appearance. Finally, Ys X: Proud Nordics is an updated version of a 2023 release in the long-running Ys series, and Horripilant is an incremental dungeon clicker with a Junji Ito-esque aesthetic.

The gaming landscape continues to expand, offering a wide range of experiences for players of all tastes. From the strategic depths of Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown to the…unique premise of Alien Morgue, this week’s releases demonstrate the creativity and diversity of the PC gaming market.
