Lahore Grapples with Severe Air Pollution: Smog Rates Soar Above 500
The air quality in Lahore has reached alarming levels, with smog rates exceeding 500, rendering the atmosphere hazardous to breathe. The polluted air, largely attributed to neighboring India, has become a major concern for the city’s residents.
Lahore Tops the List of Most Polluted Cities Worldwide
Due to the severe air pollution, Lahore has been ranked as the most polluted city globally. In response to this crisis, the School Education Department has announced changes to school hours, effective from Monday.
As per the new schedule, public and private schools in Lahore will commence their teaching process at 8:45 am, with these revised working hours set to be in place from October 28 to January 31, 2025.
To minimize exposure to the hazardous air, all outdoor activities have been suspended, and students will be required to stay indoors during school hours.
Furthermore, a strict ban has been imposed on all types of fireworks in Lahore until January 31, 2025. Experts advise residents to take necessary precautions, such as wearing masks and keeping windows and doors closed, to mitigate the effects of smog.
