Subaru Uncharted: A Deep Dive into the New Electric SUV
Subaru’s upcoming electric SUV, the Uncharted, is poised to make a important impact on the EV market, blending familiar Subaru practicality with cutting-edge electric technology. While sharing its interior architecture with its Toyota counterpart, the uncharted carves out its own identity with a focus on driver experience and versatile performance.
Interior Design and Technology:
Stepping inside the Uncharted, drivers will find a layout that echoes the familiar comfort of its Toyota twin. A 7.0-inch instrument display is positioned for easy viewing over the steering wheel,a design choice also seen in the Solterra.Dominating the dashboard is an impressive 14-inch central touchscreen, the hub for seamless connectivity. It offers wireless Apple CarPlay and android Auto, ensuring your digital life is always within reach. A thoughtful touch, borrowed from the Lexus NX, are the two physical rotary dials for cabin temperature control, providing intuitive and tactile climate management.
The steering wheel is adorned with a comprehensive array of physical buttons, offering swift access to various functions. Crucially, it also features paddles for adjusting the strength of regenerative braking, allowing drivers to fine-tune their energy recovery strategy. The floating center console further enhances the cabin’s functionality, housing additional physical buttons, dual wireless charging pads, a rotary gear selector, and a generous storage compartment beneath.
Practicality and Space:
Initial impressions suggest the Uncharted offers ample space for passengers. Our exploration revealed that six-foot-tall adults should find sufficient legroom and headroom in the rear for comfortable journeys.luggage capacity is rated at 416 litres, mirroring the C-HR+, though this is slightly less than some key rivals. This reduction is likely attributable to the Uncharted’s subtly sloped roofline, a design element that contributes to its sleek profile. As with other Subaru EVs, there is no ‘frunk’ or additional storage space located under the bonnet.
Range and Performance: A Shift in Strategy
The Uncharted will be available in three distinct versions, with a notable departure from Subaru’s traditional all-wheel-drive focus. Most models will adopt a front-wheel-drive configuration, a strategic shift driven by customer demand for increased driving range, efficiency, and affordability in electric vehicles. David Dello Stritto, Subaru’s General Manager for Europe, explained that advancements in software have substantially narrowed the performance gap between two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive EVs compared to their internal combustion engine predecessors.
The front-wheel-drive variants offer two powertrain options:
57.7kWh battery with a 167bhp electric motor: This configuration delivers an impressive range of up to 276 miles on a single charge.
77kWh battery with a 224bhp e-motor: This more potent setup extends the range to a maximum of 363 miles, placing it competitively alongside models like the Elroq and EV4 Fastback.
For those seeking the ultimate Subaru EV experience, the top-spec model boasts a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. This powertrain delivers a ample 343bhp, enabling a brisk 0-62mph acceleration time of just five seconds. It also offers a towing capacity of up to 1
