New York Declares State of Emergency as Massive snowstorm Slams Northeast

Up to 6 Feet of Snow Expected in Some Areas

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state‌ of emergency on Monday as a powerful winter storm pummeled the Northeast, bringing with it blizzard conditions and potentially historic snowfall.”This is a serious storm,” Hochul warned in a press ⁤conference. “We are urging all New Yorkers to stay off the roads and prepare for power outages.”

The storm, dubbed a “bomb cyclone” by meteorologists, is expected to⁤ dump up to 6 feet ⁣of snow in some areas of New York state, with the heaviest accumulations expected in the Buffalo and Rochester regions.

The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings for much ⁣of the ⁣state, cautioning of whiteout conditions, strong winds, and dangerously low visibility.

“Travel will be extremely perilous, if not impossible, during the ‌height of the storm,” the NWS warned.

The storm has ⁣already begun to disrupt travel across the region, with hundreds of flights canceled at major airports and road closures reported⁣ throughout New York and neighboring ‌states.

Schools‍ and businesses have also announced closures in anticipation of the severe weather.

Hochul urged residents to stock up on essential ⁤supplies, including food, water, and batteries, and to check on elderly neighbors and those with special ‌needs.

“We are prepared to respond to this storm with ⁣all available resources,” Hochul ‌said. “But‍ the‍ best way to stay safe is to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel.”
