The U.S. Small Business Administration continues to provide low-interest disaster loans to small businesses and private nonprofits in New York affected by severe storms and flooding that occurred on June 22, 2025, with applications still being accepted as of April 2026.

The disaster declaration, issued on August 18, 2025, in response to a request from Governor Kathy Hochul, covers Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and Otsego counties in New York. Eligible applicants include small businesses, private nonprofits, homeowners, and renters in these counties who suffered physical or economic damage from the storms.

Small businesses and private nonprofits may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged real estate, machinery, equipment, inventory, and other business assets. Homeowners can apply for up to $500,000 to repair or replace their primary residence and up to $100,000 for personal property such as clothing, furniture, cars, and appliances. Renters are eligible for up to $100,000 to replace or repair personal property.

Applicants may also qualify for a loan increase of up to 20% of their verified physical damage for mitigation purposes. Eligible mitigation improvements include strengthening structures against high wind damage, upgrading to wind-rated garage doors, and installing safe rooms or storm shelters to reduce future storm-related risks.

The SBA announced the availability of these loans on August 22, 2025, and confirmed in an April 22, 2026 update that disaster relief remains accessible to affected businesses and nonprofits. Loan applications are available online through the SBA’s disaster assistance portal.

Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of the program in a statement on August 21, 2025, encouraging homeowners, renters, and business owners recovering from storm damage to take advantage of the federal assistance. Senator Charles Schumer also supported the initiative, noting the catastrophic flooding and tornado-force winds that impacted homes and businesses across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley in June 2025.

As of April 23, 2026, the SBA continues to process applications for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) and physical damage loans in the designated counties, providing critical financial support for recovery and resilience efforts following the 2025 storms.
