Wellington, New Zealand – New Zealand is preparing for a significant weather event as MetService has issued a series of orange and yellow warnings and watches for heavy rain and gale-force winds across much of the country.The severe weather is expected to begin late Tuesday and persist through Thursday, driven by a humid northwest flow ahead of an approaching front.
The primary concerns include rapidly rising rivers, the potential for slips, and hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution.
Areas Under Orange Alert
* Heavy Rain:
* Canterbury Headwaters (south of Lake Marion): Residents should prepare for up to 200mm of rain between 7 AM and 10 PM Wednesday. Peak intensities could reach 25-35mm per hour. The snow level is expected to be around 2000m.
* Otago Headwaters: Up to 200mm of rain is anticipated between 3 AM and 4 PM Wednesday. The snow level will be around 1800m.
