Newcastle qualified for the third round of the English League Cup
Newcastle United qualified for the third round of the English Football League Cup with a hard-fought 4–3 win over hosts Nottingham Forest on penalties, after the match was drawn 1–1.

Newcastle United and West Ham United have narrowly qualified for the third round of the English Football League Cup.
After the match was drawn 1–1, Newcastle needed a penalty shootout to qualify 3–4 at hosts Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle took the lead in the first minute of the match with a goal from Joe Wilke and in the 50th minute Portuguese Jota Silva drew Nottingham Forest.
As for West Ham United, they went ahead with a goal from Jarrod Bowen in the 88th minute, after they beat their visitors Bournemouth.
With the same result, Ken Lewis-Potter’s goal in the 45th minute saw Brentford beat hosts Colchester and qualify.
Wolverhampton qualified after beating their visitors Burnley, with Portuguese striker Goncalo Gidish scoring twice in the 38th and 54th minutes.
Wycombe Wanderers beat Swansea City with Richard Cone’s 40th minute goal.
Southampton beat their hosts Cardiff City 3-5, qualifying for the third round after a thrilling match.
On the other hand, Wimbledon created a great surprise by beating Premier League club Ipswich Town by a score of 2-4 on penalties, after the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
