Adrian Newey Returns to F1 Full-Time with Aston Martin
September 12, 2024
Renowned Formula 1 engineer Adrian Newey is set to return to the sport full-time, joining Aston Martin as a technical management partner and shareholder.
Commitment to Success
Newey, 65, has been instrumental in Red Bull’s recent dominance in F1. Although he hasn’t worked full-time in the sport in recent years, he’s now committed to leading Aston Martin to success.
Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll expressed his confidence in Newey, stating, “He will be a leader as a technology partner, as a leader of the technology team and within the company as a partner and shareholder. I will leave it to him to set up the structure.”
A New Chapter for Newey
Newey himself confirmed his full-time role, saying, “I will be fully involved. I need to be, I have to be. I want to be at the centre of everything, I want to be in the thick of it. The team move will change the way everyone works.”
Newey also clarified that he was involved in other projects, including the Valkyrie hypercar at Red Bull. However, he denied reports that his F1 schedule was limited to three days a week.
A New Challenge for Aston Martin
Newey expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge, saying, “We are a very mature team now and after going through the big rule changes in 2022, we were able to step back and look at the evolution in 2023 and 2024. Because it is an evolution in 2022. But this is different, it is a new challenge.”
He added, “It’s a new challenge and I’ll do whatever it takes for the team.”
