What’s the best way to give Gov. Gavin Newsom free publicity and a worldwide audience?
Freeze him out at Davos, where the world’s powerful meet in the Swiss mountains. The Trump governance is learning that pettiness has a price – being ridiculed by the world.
While Congress,Europe, and the law don’t bother the president, ridicule does.
Newsom’s office says he was banned from a scheduled media talk at the World Economic Forum in Davos, allegedly under pressure from the white House, intended as a rebuttal to Trump’s remarks.
On Wednesday, Newsom’s team announced he was turned away from USA House, the official U.S. gathering spot. he was scheduled for a fireside chat with Fortune magazine, but was told to leave upon arrival at the conference hall.
“How weak and pathetic do you have to be to be this scared of a fireside chat?” newsom posted on X.
The reaction was immediate. Coverage exploded.
Fortune was unaware of the snub, according to text messages reviewed by The Times, but it quickly became international news – except, apparently, on CBS.
That’s notable attention for someone who isn’t a billionaire, doesn’t run a country, and isn’t even officially a presidential candidate. Davos is where global leaders gather to discuss crucial issues. Being excluded is a big deal.
But it makes Newsom look good. Blocking him from USA House was essentially admitting he’s a threat.
It’s effective. It’s powerful. It generates the kind of news coverage other potential candidates would envy.
It makes it clear…
