Newton Cinema Launches International Auteur-Driven Multilingual Film Slate

Newton Cinema has made its debut at the Marché du Film in Cannes, presenting an auteur-driven production slate that spans multiple languages and regions. The boutique production company, which operates across the United States, India, and Sri Lanka, is showcasing a diverse portfolio of films in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, English, French, and German.

On May 11, 2026, the company announced the upcoming project LEFTOVER, the fifth directorial feature from Salim Ahamed. The film features a cast including Arjun Radhakrishnan, Zarin Shihab, Tanmay Dhanania, Shweta Basu Prasad, and Roshan Mathew.

LEFTOVER is written by Salim Ahamed and P. V. Shajikumar. The production involves a comprehensive creative team, with cinematography handled by Sharan Velayudhan and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. The film’s musical score is composed by Christo Xavier.

The technical crew also includes Ashik S for production design, Vishnu Govind for sound design, Gayathri Kishore for costume design, and Salam for makeup.

Salim Ahamed

Salim Ahamed is recognized for his previous work, most notably Adaminte Makan Abu (also known as Abu, Son of Adam), which served as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards and earned four Indian National Film Awards. His other directorial efforts include Pathemari, Kunjananthante Kada, and And the Oscar Goes To.

Cannes Market Slate and Screenings

As part of its Marché du Film presence, Newton Cinema has scheduled a screening of MAYILAA, directed by Semmalar Annam. The screening is set for May 12, 2026, at the Lérins Cinéma Club.

MAYILAA previously had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and received an Audience Award in Toulouse.

The company’s slate also includes The Gambler, a project directed by Prasanna Vithanage. The film was written by Vithanage and Anushka Senanayake and features cinematography by Rajeev Ravi.
