Neymar has been officially omitted from the 2026 Panini World Cup sticker album, marking the first time in four editions that the Brazilian forward will not be featured among the national team’s selected players.
The exclusion was confirmed by Panini during a launch event this Saturday, with Raul Vallecillo, CEO of Panini in Brazil, explaining that the selection process relies on a statistical approach based on recent national team call-ups and player availability. Vallecillo stated that the department responsible for the album constantly monitors call-ups and calculates the probability of each player being at the World Cup, noting that “if a player hasn’t been called up or isn’t performing for the national team at that moment, the probability of inclusion decreases.”
For the 2026 edition, which features a record 980 stickers due to the tournament’s expansion to 48 teams across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Brazil has been allotted 18 slots in the album. Neymar, who has appeared in the Panini collections for the 2014, 2018, and 2022 World Cups, did not make the cut for this year’s Brazilian squad representation.
While Panini handles the commercial decisions regarding album inclusion, the ultimate determination of Brazil’s official squad rests with head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is set to announce his final list on May 18. Reports indicate that Ancelotti has implemented a high physical fitness standard for selection, a factor that has cast doubt on Neymar’s participation given his recent injury history and limited international appearances.
Neymar, now 34, has faced significant setbacks in recent years, including a knee rupture in 2023 that sidelined him for an extended period. His absence from the national team over the past year, combined with ongoing concerns about his match fitness and form, has contributed to the diminished likelihood of his inclusion in both the Panini album and the eventual World Cup squad.
The Panini sticker album, produced by the Italian publisher that has held World Cup sticker rights for decades, remains a significant cultural artifact for football fans worldwide. Its player selections are widely viewed as reflective of current team priorities and individual player trajectories, making Neymar’s omission a notable indicator of his evolving status within the Brazilian setup.
As Brazil prepares for its World Cup campaign in North America, the focus remains on finalizing a squad that balances experience with current form and physical readiness. Neymar’s absence from the preliminary sticker album selection underscores the challenges he faces in securing a place in what could be his final World Cup appearance.
