NEW YORK (AP) — Juraj Slafkovsky tallied an assist as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 Thursday night. The victory marked the Canadiens’ third straight and secured their second consecutive playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.
Slafkovsky contributed to Montreal’s second goal, gaining possession in the defensive zone and passing to Nick Suzuki, who then set up Cole Caufield for his 35th goal of the season, putting the Canadiens ahead 2-0.
The Slovakian forward recorded his 31st assist of the season, setting a new personal best.He is now two points shy of reaching 50 for the season.
The game also saw Slafkovsky involved in several altercations, including exchanges with Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman and forward David Pastrnak.
slafkovsky was named the game’s third star. He played nearly 18 minutes,recording a plus-one rating,four shots on goal,and four hits.
Boston’s loss was their tenth in a row, leaving them at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. The Canadiens’ victory was their first against the Bruins since Nov. 5, 2019.
Suzuki reached 81 points in 75 games (26 goals, 55 assists). The last Canadiens player to record at least 80 points in a season was Alexei Kovalev, who had 84 in 2007-08.
Montreal last made the playoffs in 2021. “It has been a long time, we want to break it. There is a great atmosphere in the city, coming to this stadium in front of our great fans is a joy for every player and each of us is proud to play for Canadiens,” Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher told NHL.com.
Černák Records Plus-One in Lightning Loss
Tampa Bay and Erik Černák fell to the Ottawa Senators 2-1. The Slovakian defenseman played 17 minutes, 56 seconds, recording a plus-one rating.
Linus Ullmark made 31 saves for the Senators, ending the Lightning’s four-game winning streak.
