A social media post alleging plumbers entered a delivery room at the Székesfehérvár Hospital during a woman’s labor has sparked a public outcry and inquiry. The claims, initially made by Péter Magyar, have been met with denials from the hospital, followed by corroborating testimony from the father involved and an explanation from the Secretary of State for Health. The incident highlights ongoing water contamination issues at the hospital.
Initial Claims and hospital Denial
On Sunday afternoon, Péter Magyar shared a post detailing an account from an anonymous man claiming two plumbers entered his wife’s delivery room at the Székesfehérvár Hospital on Friday, while she was experiencing labor pains. According to the post, the plumbers entered while his wife was two minutes between contractions, and nurses were instructed to allow them access. The father stated nurses shielded his wife with a blanket during the brief intrusion.
The hospital swiftly responded, strongly denying the claims. In a statement to telex, they asserted that “a single hospital worker entered the room with an operative specialist and protocol,” rejecting the assertion that “several plumbing mechanics” were present during the labor.
Father Comes Forward with Details
Following publication of the initial report, the father who originally shared the information with the Tisza Party contacted Telex to clarify the situation. He confirmed he knew exactly how many individuals entered the room, contradicting the hospital’s claim of only one worker. He stated he distinctly remembers two individuals in work clothes, including head coverings and shoe covers.
He recounted being informed by a nurse that the plumbers would be entering the room for approximately 10 minutes, with assurances that privacy would be maintained. He also emphasized the nurses’ efforts to protect his wife’s dignity by wrapping her in a blanket.
“They were really trying to be fast, and we could feel that the situation was unpleasant,” he wrote. He was fast to praise the healthcare staff, stating, “The health personnel behaved absolutely humane and professionally during childbirth, and it would be very frustrating to be taken out now. Thank you here too!”
Secretary of State Explains Disinfection Protocol
Péter Takács, Secretary of State for Health, addressed the situation on Facebook, explaining the incident was related to ongoing disinfection efforts at the hospital. He stated the hospital was undergoing disinfection on Friday evening due to persistent issues with drinkable water.
According to Takács, the disinfection process requires opening all taps and disinfecting the perlators attached to them. This procedure occurred even while the woman was in labor. He clarified that while the work is performed by personnel dealing with water pipelines, they are not supposed to enter rooms where patient care is actively taking place, and that this is done in consultation with hospital medical leaders. He added that an operating colleague oversaw the process and apologized to the family for the inconvenience, also congratulating them on the birth.
Ongoing Water Contamination Issues
The incident comes amid reports of ongoing water contamination problems at the Székesfehérvár obstetrics department. RTL previously reported that the hospital has ordered disinfection a total of ten times, suggesting a recurring issue with water quality. This context lends credence to the claim that the plumbers were present for disinfection purposes.
Hospital Response to Conflicting Accounts
Telex has reached out to the hospital for further clarification regarding the discrepancy between the initial denial and the Secretary of State’s explanation, specifically concerning the number of individuals who entered the delivery room. We will update this article as soon as we receive a response.
