Nicholas Hoult has been tapped to star as Gilderoy Lockhart in the upcoming second season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, according to a report by Deadline. The Superman actor joins the sprawling fantasy adaptation as the notoriously vain, fame-obsessed wizard and Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.

According to Deadline, production on Season 2 is scheduled to begin in the fall. The second season will follow the events of J.K. Rowling’s second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Kenneth Branagh previously portrayed Lockhart in the Warner Bros. feature film adaptation.

HBO greenlighted the second season of the fantasy series in May, positioning it to film ahead of the December 25 premiere of Season 1, which adapts Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The series will air on HBO and stream exclusively on HBO Max.

In the television adaptation, Dominic McLaughlin stars as the titular wizard, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The main cast also features Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, according to Deadline.

Lockhart’s character is introduced as a five-time winner of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award who is well-versed in Memory Charms and has authored multiple books recounting encounters with dark creatures.
