Nick Blakey arrived in Melbourne on October 7, 2026, to meet with Geelong management on October 8, 2026, to explore a potential trade away from the Sydney Swans, The Age reported. Contract Status And Club Stances Sydney list manager Chris Keane maintained that the club had received no indication from the player or his management regarding a departure, stating that the 26-year-old remains contracted until the end of 2031.
Blakey Meets Management After Club Relationship Breaks Down
Blakey flew into Melbourne on Wednesday to meet with his management following a breakdown in the relationship between the club and player amid the fallout from the Pullman Hotel scandal. The 26-year-old is one of five Sydney players who were stood down and suspended for the remainder of the season in August for breaching club behavioural standards. The incident, which involves reports of sexual assault inside a hotel room, remains under investigation by Victoria Police. No charges have been laid, and Blakey has denied criminal wrongdoing.
Despite public insistence from Sydney that Blakey is a required player who is expected to return in 2027, industry sources indicated that the player is preparing to sit down with the Cats as he explores whether a late trade can be engineered. Geelong is understood to be the player’s preferred destination if he leaves the Swans.
Essendon and St Kilda Express Interest in Defender
Alongside Geelong, Essendon and St Kilda have expressed early interest in the rebounding defender.
Furthermore, Fox Sports noted that Geelong possesses limited trade capital after trading its 2027 first-round pick to secure Jordan Ridley from Essendon on Wednesday, leaving the Cats holding selections 14 and 34 as well as a future first-round pick in 2028.
Police Continue Inquiry into Four Suspended Players
While the police investigation continues, four of the suspended players—Blakey, Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, and James Jordon—remain subjects of the ongoing inquiry. A fifth player, Riley Bice, was cleared of criminal conduct by police and is being treated as a witness. News.com.au reported that aside from Blakey, all remaining members of the Pullman five are expected to stay at Sydney.
