Nick Cannon on Fatherhood: “I’m Doing My Best” Amidst 12 Children and Public Scrutiny

Nick Cannon, the prolific comedian and television personality, is once again addressing the public’s fascination with his ever-growing family. With 12 children from multiple partners, Cannon finds himself in a unique position, often compared to figures like Elon Musk in discussions about repopulating the Earth. However, Cannon insists his extensive fatherhood journey isn’t driven by grand pronouncements but rather by a desire to support the women in his life and friends embarking on parenthood.
Cannon, known for his role on “Wild ‘N Out,” acknowledges the varied opinions surrounding his parenting style. He firmly believes in his commitment to his children, stating, “whatever my children want to do, I can definitely help cultivate and amplify – whether that’s through finances, whether that’s through connections, whether that’s through my ability to just parent well, to where I can put you in the best schools.”
He describes his parenting method as an unconventional “cheat code,” admitting it might not align with conventional norms. “Everybody else says,’There’s no way he could spend all the time with them kids and be present for all them kids.’ But I’m doing my best, and where I fall short, hopefully the things that I do have that bring me an advantage, I can lend to them.” This approach, he suggests, allows him to provide unique advantages to his children, even if it means a less conventional path to presence.
Quincy Jones: A Fatherhood Forecaster
In a surprising revelation, Cannon credits the late music icon Quincy Jones with predicting his future as a father of many. Their connection began in 2007 during the production of “Star Camp.” Even when Cannon was a father of just two, Jones offered prescient advice.
“He used to talk to me when I only had two kids, and it was just me and Mariah,” Cannon recalled. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, that’s light work. You going to get tired of that soon.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean? … I got an amazing wife who’s my dream girl!'”
Jones, who himself fathered seven children and passed away last year at 91, saw a kindred spirit in cannon. “I no your kind… You’re cut from the same cloth as me,” Jones reportedly told him. for Cannon,Jones became a powerful role model for managing a large family and maintaining financial stability for his offspring. “People ask, ‘Why you got 12 jobs?’ because I’ve got 12 kids!” Cannon quipped, adding that Jones’s ability to provide for his children inspired him. “He did it right.”
The Future of Nick Cannon’s Family Tree
When asked if he’s finished expanding his family, the 44-year-old comedian remains open-ended. “The world is a crazy place,” Cannon stated. “I never say, ‘Never’!” This sentiment suggests that while he’s focused on his current responsibilities, the possibility of more children isn’t entirely off the table.
