The Nifty 50 index has extended its losing streak to eight consecutive weeks, marking a difficult phase for Indian equities as heavy foreign outflows and global headwinds weigh on the market.
Foreign Investors Withdraw over 3 Lakh Crore from Equities
Sustained selling pressure from Foreign Institutional Investors has driven much of the downward movement, with overseas investors withdrawing over ₹3 lakh crore from Indian equities in the first nine months of 2026.
Market participants also face macroeconomic pressures stemming from rising United States Treasury yields, firm crude oil prices, and a weakening Indian rupee. These cross-border factors have combined with domestic selling to keep broader sentiment subdued across major indexes.

Nifty Tests Major Long-Term Moving Average Support Zones
Technical analysts point out that the Nifty has tested major long-term moving averages, including the 200-week exponential moving average and the 200-week simple moving average, situated near the 22,400 to 22,600 band. Rohan Shah, senior technical analyst at Asit C. Mehta Investment Intermediates, noted that oversold momentum and breadth readings, along with historically favorable October seasonality, raise the probability of a technical recovery.
Nifty has moved closer to the crucial 22,000–22,200 support zone, which coincides with its 200-week EMA and the lower boundary of the multi-year consolidation range. Oversold momentum and breadth readings, coupled with historically favourable October seasonality, increase the probability of a recovery.

Ajit Mishra, SVP-Research at Religare Broking, added that a decisive break below the April low could negate any potential rebound and drag the index down toward 21,700 to 22,000. Meanwhile, Pabitro Mukherjee, deputy vice president, technical at Bajaj Broking, highlighted that weekly and daily oscillators have reached extremely oversold territory following the sharp decline.
Brokerages Identify Tactical Stock Targets and Stop Losses
Amid the broader market correction, brokerage reports have identified several tactical stock candidates for investors monitoring technical reversals.
Additional equity strategies feature specific targets and stop losses across multiple sectors. Indian Hotel is consolidating above its 50-week EMA with a target of Rs 800, while Torrent Pharma faces declining momentum with a downside target of Rs 4,250. Mankind Pharma has rebounded from support near Rs 2,250, and HDFC Bank offers a fresh opportunity with a resistance confluence around Rs 775.
Analysts emphasize that investors should maintain strict risk management and prioritize capital preservation while monitoring whether the Nifty can hold the 22,000 to 22,200 zone on a closing basis.
