Suspected jihadists killed nine travelers in southwestern Niger on Friday, including a teacher, near ⁤the ⁢border⁣ with Burkina Faso.The attack underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in the tri-border region.

The teachers’ ⁤union confirmed that one of its⁣ members was among the dead. The attack ⁢took place around 10 a.m. on the road connecting makalondi and Torodi, less than 60 miles from Niamey.

Another teacher was⁤ wounded and transported to Niamey for medical care. The union condemned the⁣ act as‍ “despicable.” A resident of Torodi verified the incident, reporting civilian casualties.

The Nigerien army reported neutralizing 13 terrorists between June 8 and 14 during operations at illegal gold mining sites in the Teguey‍ commune.Additionally, about 30 members of “criminal cells in training” were killed in the Dosso area, near the Nigerian border.
