At least 151 people are dead after intense rainfall caused catastrophic flooding in Mokwa, Nigeria. The flooding disaster has displaced more than 3,000 people, according to Ibrahim Audu Husseini, a spokesman for the Niger state emergency agency.Mokwa is a market town located more than 180 miles west of Abuja.
The Nigeria flooding,which began early Friday,impacted at least 500 households across three communities. Husseini described homes submerged to their roofs,with residents forced to wade thru waist-deep water.
President Bola tinubu has directed the activation of the national emergency response center to provide swift assistance. “Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing, and all relevant federal agencies have been mobilized to support the state government’s efforts,” Tinubu stated.
He added that relief materials and temporary shelter are being deployed instantly, ensuring that all affected Nigerians receive aid.
“We lost many lives, and the properties, our farm produce. Those that have their storage have lost it,” said Kazeem Muhammed,a Mokwa resident.
