Nigeria Massacre: Christian Community’s Role in Focus Amidst Global Outrage

An estimated 200 Nigerian Christians were killed last week in what one international aid organization described as the ”worst killing spree” to date. The attack occurred in Yelwata,a farming community in Guma County,benue State.
Heavily armed Fulani militants targeted the Christian villagers over two days.Benue State is predominantly Christian, and Yelwata served as a settlement for internally displaced persons (IDPs) fleeing previous attacks, according to Micheel Odeh James with Truth Nigeria.
James described the scene as a “genocidal massacre,” noting that militants set fire to buildings with people inside and attacked those who tried to escape with machetes.”Babies were burned,” he said.
According to Aid to the Church in need (ACN), police stopped the attackers at St. Joseph’s Church, where 700 people were sheltering. the militants then attacked the town’s market square, setting fire to the accommodations of displaced people before opening fire on more than 500 sleeping individuals.
