Incident Overview
A 31-year-old woman was reported to have jumped from teh Saint-Nazaire bridge in France during the night of Sunday, December 28th, to Monday, December 29th, 2024. Emergency services launched a search operation shortly after 1:00 AM local time.
Search and Rescue Efforts
Two nautical teams, from the French fire department (pompiers) and the National Society for Sea Rescue (SNSM – Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer), were deployed in the Loire River near Montoir-de-Bretagne. Drone pilots were also mobilized to assist in the search, according to the Loire-Atlantique fire and rescue department (sdis).
The search operation, encompassing both water and aerial reconnaissance, continued until just before 3:00 AM. Despite these efforts, the Sdis reported that the search proved “infructuous,” meaning the woman was not located.
