Nikkiso Clean Energy and Industrial Gases Group Embarks on Ambitious Expansion: Doubling European Production Capacity to Meet Growing Demand
Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Expands Production Operations in Wurzen, Germany
Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases, part of the industrial division of Nikkiso Co. Ltd., celebrated the expansion of its production operations in Wurzen, Saxony, Germany on August 29, 2024, with a groundbreaking ceremony. The additional space will almost double the Group’s production capacity in Europe.
The expansion will strengthen the Group’s carbon capture operations and offer new production solutions for the assembly of cryogenic pumps, heat exchangers, and hydrogen refueling skids. This will meet market demand for cryogenic equipment and industrial solutions used in clean energy projects such as hydrogen fuel stations, LNG and ammonia terminals, and hydrogen power plants.
“Nikkiso is investing to meet market demand for clean energy and is expanding its operations in Germany due to increasingly favorable economic conditions for low-carbon energy solutions,” said Peter Wagner, Executive Chairman of the Nikkiso CE&IG Board of Directors.
Expanding production space and capacity in Europe will enable the Group to share knowledge and expertise across regions and create well-paying jobs for local workers. Growth of around 20% is expected in the short term and higher growth in the longer term.
Nikkiso has experience in the cryogenic industry that many competitors cannot match,” noted Adrian Ridge, CEO of Nikkiso CE&IG. “The Wurzen factory will be Nikkiso’s production center in Europe and will strengthen our customer base in Neuenburg.
“The expansion of the Nikkiso site in Wurzen is a long-term investment that shows how attractive Saxony is as a location for international investors. Doubling production capacity is a vote of confidence that we can be proud of. With this decision, Nikkiso will occupy an important place in the hydrogen economy that Saxony wants to rely on in the coming decades. I am very pleased that together we are strengthening this cooperation in the field of clean energy and innovation. This is excellent news for Wurzen and for Saxony as a center of economic activity.”
Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer
The facility’s operations are, and will continue to be, powered entirely by renewable solar energy when the expansion is completed in the first half of 2025.
