‘Nils Holgersson: The New Adventure’ Announced
ANNECY,France — Gold Valley Films of China and Siyah Martı Animation Studios of Türkiye have partnered to co-produce Nils Holgersson: The New Adventure,a CGI animated feature. The agreement was signed at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The film is a modern take on Selma Lagerlöf’s Scandinavian story. Jason Reisig (Smallfoot) and Shamg accordancer (Little Emma) are co-directing the project. It follows a 12-year-old boy who shrinks and journeys across Sweden on a goose. The story includes themes of empathy, environmentalism and growth.
Allen Tsang, head of international at GVF, said the co-production is a step in building globally appealing animation. He added that Nils is a story of transformation.
Roger (Qing) Chen, CEO of GVF, said the project aligns with their mission to tell culturally grounded stories. Siyah Martı, led by nurullah Yenihan, is known for family films such as Nasreddin Hodja. Yenihan said they are excited to partner with GVF on the timeless story.
PlayBig founder Frédéric Puech brokered the deal and will handle pre-sales. GVFI will manage international sales and distribution.
Nils Holgersson: The New Adventure is slated for a 2026 global release.Casting announcements are expected later this year.
