Nîmes Resourcery Expands to Meet Surging Demand for Second-Hand Goods
NÎMES,France (AP) — The resourcery Ré Nîmes,a vital hub for recycling and reuse in the Gard region,is relocating to a larger site to accommodate the booming second-hand market. As opening in 2019, the organization has experienced a surge in donations, straining its current facilities.
Overwhelmed by Success
The resourcery currently receives 1.7 metric tons of donated items daily. A team of 12 employees and more than 50 volunteers sort, assess, and sell these goods at affordable prices. However, the existing 600-square-meter space has become insufficient.
“The current site is like a ’too small shoe’ so much the flow of objects is critically important. It overflows everywhere.”

foot traffic at the shop has increased by 24%, with an average of 145 daily visits. The limited parking often deters potential customers. Donations have also seen a significant rise, jumping from 128 metric tons in 2021 to 228 metric tons in 2024 – a 78% increase.
New Location, New Opportunities
To address these challenges and expand its services, Ré Nîmes is moving to the Mas des Abeilles. The new location offers 6,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor space dedicated to environmental initiatives.
The organization plans to introduce new features at the Mas des Abeilles, including a community coffee shop,do-it-yourself workshops, and expanded recycling facilities, complementing its existing operations.
“The biggest challenge is to move everything. We need a big helping hand.”
Clearance Sale and Relocation Details
Ré Nîmes will hold a clearance sale May 2-3, 2025, to reduce the volume of items to be moved. The current shop on Rue des Platanettes will be closed May 3. the new location is scheduled to open approximately two weeks later.
