MILAN – The women’s free skate final at the Winter Olympics in Milan is underway, and the leaderboard has already seen significant shifts. Amber Glenn of the United States currently leads after a stunning performance, while both Loena Hendrickx and Nina Pinzarrone of Belgium have taken to the ice for their free skate programs.

Glenn’s performance, highlighted by a spectacular triple Axel, earned her a free skate score of 147.52 and a total score of 214.91. This marks a personal best for Glenn and a dramatic comeback after struggles in previous rounds. She reportedly gave a fist bump at center ice after completing her routine, a gesture noted by Alysa Liu, who commented, “She killed it.”

The competition is fierce, with several skaters posting strong scores. Niina Petrokina of Estonia follows Glenn with a total score of 210.82, achieved with a free skate score of 141.19, building on her short program score of 69.63. Haein Lee of Korea is close behind with a total of 210.56, thanks to a free skate score of 140.49 and a short program score of 70.07. Sofia Samodelkina of Kazakhstan and Jia Shin of Korea also delivered impressive performances, securing total scores of 207.46, and 206.68 respectively.

Isabeau Levito of the USA currently holds a total score of 202.80, while Lara Naki Gutmann of Italy has a total score of 195.75. Loena Hendrickx of Belgium is currently at 199.

The earlier short program saw Ami Nakai of Japan take the top spot with a score of 78.71. Kaori Sakamoto, also representing Japan, followed closely with 77.23, and Alysa Liu of the USA secured third place with 76.59. Mone Chiba of Japan and Adeliia Petrosian of AIN rounded out the top five with scores of 74.00 and 72.89, respectively.

The competition has been marked by both strong performances and challenges. Jia Shin of Korea experienced a fall during her free skate, impacting her overall score. Several skaters, including Lorine Schild of France, faced difficulties with their jumps, with Schild described as “hanging on” during a 3Lo attempt. Ekaterina Kurakova of Poland also encountered challenges, with a 3T2T combination in her program.

Nina Pinzarrone’s performance is particularly noteworthy as she represents Belgium alongside Loena Hendrickx. Both skaters are competing in the free skate, adding to the excitement for Belgian fans. Pinzarrone’s short program score was 68.97.

The stakes are high as Alysa Liu prepares to skate, aiming to become the first American woman to medal in the Olympic figure skating competition in two decades. She entered the night in third position after a strong short program. The pressure is on as she follows Glenn’s impressive performance and looks to maintain her position among the leaders.

The women’s figure skating finals are taking place at the Milano Ice Skating Arena, and the event is being closely followed by fans worldwide. The competition promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the figure skating events at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
