Nintendo has announced a rebranding of its transmedia subsidiary, changing its name from Warpstar Inc. to Nintendo Stars. This change, detailed in a company memo published on the official Nintendo Japan website, signals a strengthened focus on maximizing the value of Nintendo intellectual property (IP) across various media.
The restructuring aims to broaden the application of Nintendo IP beyond film adn television to include live events and merchandise through project growth and licensing agreements. Nintendo Stars intends to increase global familiarity with its franchises and create new avenues for fan engagement.
Expanding Franchise Reach and Upcoming Projects
Nintendo highlighted its continued development of the Kirby franchise, leveraging existing expertise to reach a wider audience through partnerships. The company also emphasized its commitment to strengthening relationships with customers by expanding access to Nintendo IP worldwide.
Several high-profile projects are already in development. A new animated Super Mario Bros. film is scheduled for release on April 3, 2026, and a live-action adaptation of The Legend of zelda is slated to debut on May 7, 2027, as previously reported by gamesindustry.biz.
Warpstar’s Origins and Evolution
Warpstar Inc. was initially established in April of the previous year as a consolidated subsidiary to oversee Nintendo’s growing transmedia business. The rebranding to Nintendo Stars reflects the company’s evolving strategy and increased ambition in this sector.
