The Nintendo Switch 2 ‌was the best-selling console in the U.S. for 2025, leading in both ⁣unit and dollar sales with 4.4 million units sold. This continues its⁤ trend of outpacing the‍ original nintendo Switch’s sales ⁤during the same period.

This data comes ‍from Circana’s full-year report on‍ the ⁤U.S. games market, as reported⁤ by analyst Mat Piscatella. The ⁢Switch 2 has consistently held the top spot as its ‌launch, a period that has seen sales decline for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.

Battlefield 6 was the‍ best-selling game of ⁤the year, and the Nintendo‌ Switch ‌2 Pro Controller was ⁤the best-selling accessory.

The U.S. games market ⁢reached $60.7 billion ⁣in total sales for 2025, with $7.8⁢ billion in sales during December alone. This represents a 1% and 3% increase year-over-year, respectively.

Hardware spending increased 9% year-over-year to $5.4 billion for the year, and 6% year-over-year ⁤to $1.2 billion in december. The ‌Switch 2’s 4.4 million‌ units sold represent a 94% increase over the original Switch’s sales at the same point after ‍its launch, and a 35% led over the PlayStation 4. ⁢ Piscatella notes on Bluesky that the Game Boy Advance remains the fastest-selling hardware‌ platform overall after seven months on sale.

Software spending ‍in⁤ December was up 3% to $5.9 billion, with subscription services experiencing the largest growth at⁤ 24% year-over-year.Full-year software spending was‍ up only 1% year-over-year,⁢ with growth in subscription spending (up 20%) offsetting declines in other areas except mobile.

While Battlefield 6 was ⁤the best-selling game of the year Call of Duty: Black Ops⁢ 7 was⁣ the top seller ‌in December.
