Nintendo is banking on the Switch 2 to revitalize sales, incorporating new social features designed to attract players to online gaming. However, the new console launch also faces challenges, including tariff-related price increases and supply constraints.
In the U.S., a chaotic preorder process in April left many fans empty-handed. despite online frustrations, some still sought their chances at local retailers. Edgar Huo, waiting in line at a Manhattan Target, said he was “just rolling the dice” for a chance at any extra inventory.
In Japan, the console was sold through a lottery system that drew 2.2 million applications.Koji Takahashi, who missed the official draw, secured a console through a retailer’s lottery.Arriving four hours early, he also hoped to purchase limited-edition accessories.
