Leh,Ladakh – Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman concluded a four-day visit to Ladakh on Sunday,marking her presence wiht the virtual inauguration of multiple development projects. The visit underscores the Indian government’s focus on inclusive growth and infrastructure development in the Union Territory.
During a Credit Outreach Program in Leh, Sitharaman distributed sanction letters to beneficiaries of various central government initiatives. The economic growth push saw the disbursement of 51.3 million rupees in loans under schemes such as PM MUDRA, PM Vishwakarma, PMEGP, PM Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PM FME), and Joint Liability Group (JLG) loans.
Sitharaman also toured an exhibition showcasing local handicrafts and handloom products crafted by Self Help Groups (SHG) and local entrepreneurs. She lauded the artisans’ entrepreneurial spirit and their role in preserving Ladakh’s cultural heritage and bolstering rural livelihoods. The finance minister specifically praised Rinchen Dolma, a PM Mudra Scheme beneficiary, for her drive and success in utilizing government programs.
“What a breathtaking drive there is in her to use a government scheme and showcase what she has grown. Very well done,” Sitharaman said.
She further encouraged Dolma to advance to the next phase of the PM Mudra Scheme to expand her business. The finance minister also met with Ladakh Lok sabha MP Mohmad Haneefa, former MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, and a delegation led by Tashi Gyalson, Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.
earlier in her visit, Sitharaman toured Leh Palace, a 17th-century structure built by King Singe Namgyal, and the Shanti Stupa, which the 14th Dalai Lama, tenzin Gyatso, helped establish.
