Nishikori’s Winning Streak: Japanese Star Shines Bright After 3 Weeks of Non-Stop Action

Kei⁢ Nishikori ⁣to‍ Face Preliminary Round Winner ​in HPP Open ⁤First Round

The‍ HPP Open (Finland/Helsinki,‌ indoor hard, ATP Challenger) men’s tennis tournament will begin on the ​4th, and the singles pairings ⁣were announced on the 2nd. Ranked 140th in the world, ⁣Kei Nishikori ⁢will face ‌the winner of the preliminary round in the first round.

Nishikori, 34⁢ years⁢ old and former world No. 4, began ⁤competing in European indoor hard court‌ tournaments​ last week ⁤at the Erste Bank Open⁢ (Vienna, Austria, ‌indoor hard, ATP500). At the tournament,⁣ he ‍lost in‍ the first ‍round,​ losing to John ⁤Draper (UK).

He‌ won three‍ matches at the ‍current ‌Slovakia Open 2024 (Slovakia/Bratislava, indoor‍ hard, ATP Challenger), and⁣ won three matches‌ since ⁣the ⁤Caribbean Open (Puerto Rico/Palmas del Mar, hard, ATP Challenger) in June last‍ year. They advanced to the top four in an⁢ official tournament for the first time​ in about 1 ​year ‍and 5 months.

In the semifinals held on the 2nd,‍ he lost to No. 1 seed R. Safiulin⁢ in⁣ straight sets, 4-6, 3-6, and did ‌not advance‌ to ​the final.

Nishikori will also participate in ​the⁢ HPP Open,​ which starts next⁣ week, making him the third consecutive ‌week in the tournament.

On ⁣the 2nd,‍ the singles⁤ draw was announced,‍ and it was decided that Nishikori would face ⁤the winner of the preliminary round in‌ the first round. The ​opponent will ​be decided after the qualifying round, which will be held by the ​4th.

If he wins the first‍ round, he will⁢ face either No. 7 ⁣seed⁢ J. Kim (Switzerland) or the winner of‍ the preliminary round in the second round.
