Massachusetts Awards $1.5M for Opioid Recovery Efforts

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll management is allocating $1.5 million in matching grants to 30 municipalities and community groups. The aim: to combat the overdose crisis in disproportionately affected areas of Massachusetts.
These grants represent the second funding round of the Mosaic Opioid Recovery Partnership. This collaboration, formed in 2024 between the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Addiction Services and RIZE Massachusetts, seeks to fairly distribute Opioid Recovery and Remediation Funds to smaller community organizations and municipalities.
The one-year grants, ranging from $5,000 to $150,000, support initiatives focused on prevention, harm reduction, access to care, recovery, trauma support, grief counseling, and family assistance. communities could apply directly, partner with nonprofits, or collaborate with other municipalities to pool resources.
Municipalities will dedicate a matching portion of thier opioid settlement funds to these initiatives. RIZE Massachusetts will provide technical assistance and learning opportunities to grantees, strengthening their organizations and fostering sustainability. RIZE plans two more municipal matching grant rounds through 2027, awarding a total of $4 million over the programme’s three years.
Grant recipients include a diverse array of organizations and municipalities. Among them are Adult & Teen Challenge Southern New England Women’s Home, Behavioral Health Innovators, Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, and the cities of Cambridge, Fall River, and Lawrence.
