More than 40 pharmacy practitioners and technicians from across New Jersey convened at the New Jersey society of Health-System Pharmacy (NJSHP) 2nd Annual Pharmacy Leader and Pharmacy Technician Symposium on Oct. 5, 2024. The event, hosted at the RWJ Health Facility, provided a space for networking, professional growth, and continuing education.
The symposium featured vendor exhibits and fostered discussions on critical topics, including compliance, education, and regulation in pharmacy compounding. The mix of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians underscored the eventS growing influence.
Expert Insights on Pharmacy Compounding
Lou Diorio, of LDT Health Solutions, opened the symposium with a presentation on the designated person’s role under USP <797>. Diorio emphasized the importance of this role in maintaining sterile and non-sterile compounding compliance.
Mitch G. Sobel, director of pharmacy services at University Hospital, followed with an overview of legal updates in pharmacy compounding rules. sobel highlighted the distinctions between the Pharmacist-in-Charge and the Designated person, stressing their accountability in ensuring pharmacy compliance.
Dialog and Collaboration
The presentations spurred discussions with speakers and NJSHP board members on standard operating procedure development, USP compliance, and state regulatory updates.
