Lincoln Financial Field Prepares for FIFA Club World Cup with New Turf

Lincoln Financial Field is gearing up to host its first of eight FIFA games for the Club World Cup on June 16. The stadium’s pitch is getting a makeover thanks to Tuckahoe Turf farms of Hammonton, N.J.
Keith salmon of Tuckahoe Turf Farms said his team has been collaborating with FIFA, the University of tennessee, adn Michigan State University to develop a field suitable for the world-class soccer tournament. The turf farm already supplies turf for MetLife and gillette stadiums.
Salmon emphasized the extensive research involved.”Working with the accredited universities on the science behind the grass…getting the whole thing ironed out to make sure that when the time comes everything is ready to go,” he said.
Tuckahoe Turf Farms began its partnership with FIFA in 2020, focusing on creating optimal turfs for the upcoming 2025 club World Cup and the 2026 World Cup games in the United States. The new turf will enhance the FIFA Club World cup experience.
Salmon said the turf, cultivated over the past year, is ready for harvesting. “You might not see it just by looking at the grass itself,but every single thing on this field is specific towards the livelihood of the grass,” he noted. The FIFA Club world Cup demands the best.
FIFA maintains stringent pitch quality standards to guarantee a consistent playing surface for all teams, nonetheless of the turf’s origin. This ensures a level playing field for the World Cup games.
“We need to simulate all the conditions that we will face in the 16 host cities and find strategies to reach a uniformity in look and feel, but also playability, across all the 16 venues,” said Heimo Schirgi, the FIFA chief operating officer for the world Cup.
The turf will be transported to Lincoln Financial Field on Monday for evaluation by FIFA and the Tuckahoe team before the June 16 match.
Salmon hopes to recycle the turf after the World Cup,finding beneficial uses for it. “Putting the material back in the field and trying to create something out of the plastic fibers,” Salmon said. “We are also looking at local venues of high schools and recreation municipalities who would be interested in using this once it’s done at the stadium.”
