No. 27 Kentucky men’s tennis secured a 4-3 upset victory over No. 12 Georgia on April 6, 2026. The match, held at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington, Kentucky, served as the team’s Senior Day celebration for Martin Breysach, Charlelie Cosnet, and Jaden Weekes.

The Wildcats rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win the final three singles courts, marking their second 4-3 victory of the season. The match lasted four hours and 15 minutes, with Kentucky improving its overall record to 15-10 and its SEC record to 5-7.

Doubles Play and Early Singles Momentum

Kentucky began the contest by securing the doubles point for the fifth consecutive match. No. 19 Jack Loutit and Eli Stephenson earned a 7-5 victory over the No. 13 pairing of Arda Azkara and Santiago Giamichelle after overcoming an early break.

The doubles point was finalized by Nicolas Arseneault and Jaden Weekes, who defeated Derrick Chen and Noah Johnston with a 7-6 (4) tiebreaker win on court three. Georgia managed one doubles win, as Will Jansen and Gabriele Vulpitta defeated Cosnet and Breysach 7-4 in a tiebreaker.

Despite the success in doubles, Kentucky struggled early in singles play, losing the first set across all six matches. Georgia capitalized on this momentum to take a 3-1 lead. Noah Johnston defeated Mikael Arseneault 6-4, 6-1, and Jaden Weekes fell to his opponent 6-4, 6-2 in a three-set match. No. 70 Arseneault lost to No. 40 Jansen in two tiebreak sets, 7-4 and 11-9.

The Junior Class Comeback

The Wildcats’ comeback was led by their junior class, who secured all three singles points. Matt Rankin, Eli Stephenson, and Jack Loutit each delivered comeback victories to overturn the deficit.

The Junior Class Comeback

Eli Stephenson, a Louisville native ranked 24th nationally in singles, faced No. 35 Arda Azkara. After losing the first set 6-1, Stephenson took the second set 6-3. The match reached a third-set tiebreaker where Stephenson produced a highlight-reel play by leaping over the net and slamming the ball onto Azkara’s side to win a point. The judge ruled the move valid, and Stephenson won the match 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).

Jack Loutit provided the clinching victory for Kentucky. Like Stephenson, Loutit won his match in a final set tiebreaker, ensuring the 4-3 result for the Wildcats.

Upcoming Schedule

Kentucky will conclude its regular season with two road matches next week. The team is scheduled to travel to face No. 7 LSU on Friday, April 10, and No. 24 Ole Miss on Sunday, April 12.

Following the regular season, the SEC Men’s Tennis Championship will take place on Wednesday, April 15, in College Station, Texas.
