UND Defeats Miami 1-0 in Series Opener

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – No. 3 North Dakota defeated No. 20 Miami 1-0 Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena, taking a 1-0 lead in the weekend series. The game featured a standout performance from UND goaltender Jan Špunar, who recorded his fourth shutout of the season, stopping all 12 shots he faced.

Tyler Young scored the lone goal of the game in the second period, deflecting a point shot from Andrew Strathmann past Miami goaltender Matteo Drobac. The goal came at the 9:57 mark of the second period and marked UND’s 20th shot on net.

Drobac was a key factor in keeping the game close, delivering a stellar performance with 41 saves on 42 shots. Despite the loss, his effort was recognized as one of the top performances of the night.

The game was scoreless after the first period. UND dominated the shot count throughout the contest, ultimately outshooting Miami 42-12.
