No. 5 Mississippi State Sweeps South Alabama 7-0 in Dominant Tennis Victory

Mississippi State Men’s Tennis Sweeps South Alabama 7-0

STARKVILLE – The No. 5 Mississippi State men’s tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping South Alabama 7-0 at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The victory improves the Bulldogs’ overall record to 10-2, while South Alabama falls to 2-5 on the season.

Mississippi State secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The duo of Mario Martinez Serrano and Michal Novansky defeated Juan Accossatto and Jules Caby 6-3. Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes and Bryan Hernandez Cortes followed with a 6-2 win over Victor Frumholz and Adam Bouyacoub on court three. The match on court one, featuring the fourth-ranked tandem of Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez, was halted with the Bulldogs leading 5-3.

The Bulldogs continued their strong play into singles competition, winning all six matches. No. 33 Mario Martinez Serrano was the first to finish, securing a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Raphael Vaksmann added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4, and No. 55 Bryan Hernandez Cortes clinched a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 triumph at No. 5.

Mississippi State quickly gained momentum in singles play with straight-set wins on courts three and four. Hernandez Cortes added another straight-set victory at No. 5, before the Bulldogs closed out the sweep with three-set wins on courts one, two, and six. Benito Sanchez Martinez clinched the overall result with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

The match lasted 2 hours and 50 minutes. This marked Mississippi State’s first 7-0 sweep of the season.
