‘No Kings’ Protests Planned Against Trump Military Parade
Updated June 16, 2025
Across the nation, opponents of President Trump are organizing “No Kings” protests to coincide with the Army’s 250th anniversary celebration and military parade in Washington, D.C., scheduled for Saturday. The demonstrations also fall on the president’s 79th birthday and Flag Day.
The “No Kings” protests, rejecting authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of democracy, follow days of demonstrations against federal immigration raids, including those in Los Angeles that prompted the deployment of the National Guard.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday he is deploying more than 5,000 TX National Guard troops and over 2,000 state police in anticipation of the “No Kings” events and ongoing demonstrations.
The 50501 Movement, comprised of everyday Americans,is behind the “No Kings” theme. The name represents 50 states, 50 protests, one movement against what they view as the Trump administration’s authoritarian actions. The protests denounce Trump and his policies, with demonstrators calling for him to be “dethroned.”
Organizers say the “No Kings Day of Defiance” aims to counter the Army’s anniversary celebration, which Trump expanded to include a large military parade featuring tanks and aircraft. They expect millions to participate in nearly 2,000 locations, though no protests are planned in Washington, D.C. Instead, a flagship march and rally will take place in Philadelphia.
The “No Kings” website states, “The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us.On june 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t – to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”
protesters of all ages are expected to participate in speeches, marches, and flag-waving. The movement emphasizes nonviolent action and de-escalation, with weapons prohibited at all events.
What’s next
Organizers anticipate the “No kings Day of Defiance” to be the largest single-day mobilization as Trump’s return to office, with millions expected to participate across all 50 states and commonwealths.
