Ryan Coogler, director of the hit film Sinners, says fans shouldn’t expect a sequel anytime soon. Coogler told EBONY in April that he intends to steer clear of franchise films temporarily. Instead, he wants to focus on original and personal projects.
Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, jack O’connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo, follows twin brothers returning to their Mississippi hometown to escape troubled lives, only to find new dangers awaiting them.
The film has become a box office success. Variety reports that Sinners is among the top 10 highest-grossing movies of the year,with $350 million in global earnings. Despite the film’s success, Coogler is firm in his decision to move away from sequels and focus on delivering unique stories to audiences. He wants to create films that feel complete and satisfying.
“I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrees, and desserts, I wanted all of it there,” Coogler said. “I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. that was always my intention.”
Coogler expressed gratitude to fans on social media for their support of Sinners. He thanked those who bought tickets,drove to theaters,purchased concessions,and discussed the film with others.
