No trains will depart from Delémont railway station during the overnight period from Sunday, April 19 to Monday, April 20, 2026, due to scheduled maintenance work on the Jura rail line, according to Radio Fréquence Jura (RFJ).
The suspension affects all passenger services originating from Delémont between 10:00 p.m. On Sunday and 5:00 a.m. On Monday, impacting connections to key regional hubs including Biel/Bienne, Neuchâtel and Delle in France. Trains arriving in Delémont during this window will continue to operate normally, but no departures will be permitted from the station.
The disruption is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade program led by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to modernize signaling systems and track sections along the Biel–Bienne–Delémont corridor. Work will focus on replacing aging rail joints and upgrading automatic train control (ATC) equipment between Glovelier and Delémont, areas identified in SBB’s 2025–2027 regional investment plan as requiring urgent renewal to maintain safety and punctuality standards.
SBB confirmed that the maintenance window was selected to minimize disruption to daytime commuter and freight traffic, which remains heavy on this route due to its role in connecting the Jura bernois region to the Swiss Plateau and the TGV Lyria corridor toward Paris. Approximately 1,200 passengers typically use Delémont station during the affected overnight hours on a typical weekend, based on SBB’s 2024 annual ridership report.
Alternative transport arrangements have been organized for affected travelers. Postbus Switzerland will operate replacement bus services between Delémont and Moutier, with connections to Biel/Bienne via regional train from Moutier onward. Buses will depart Delémont station at 20-minute intervals starting at 10:15 p.m. On Sunday, with the final service leaving at 4:45 a.m. On Monday. SBB advises passengers to allow an additional 20 to 25 minutes for journey times compared to normal rail travel.
The Jura bernois regional government has acknowledged the inconvenience but emphasized the necessity of the upgrades. “These works are essential to ensure long-term reliability and safety on one of Switzerland’s most important regional arteries,” said a spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Infrastructure of the Canton of Bern, noting that similar overnight closures are planned for other sections of the Jura line later in 2026.
Delémont station serves as a critical junction for the Jura railway network, linking the Ajoie and Franches-Montagnes regions to national and international routes. It handles both SBB regional services and cross-border TER trains operated by SNCF Grand Est, which terminate at Delle. The overnight suspension will not affect SNCF services arriving from France, as those trains are scheduled to reach Delémont before the closure begins.
Passengers are advised to check real-time updates via the SBB mobile app or online timetable, as adjustments to the maintenance schedule may occur depending on weather conditions or progress on-site. SBB has stated that it will provide refunds or vouchers for any tickets rendered unusable by the service change, in accordance with its standard passenger rights policy for planned disruptions.
