Noel Mikaelian Reclaims WBC Cruiserweight Title in Rematch Victory Over Badou Jack
Noel Mikaelian defeated Badou Jack by unanimous decision in Los Angeles on Saturday, regaining the WBC cruiserweight title. The judges’ scorecards reflected Mikaelian’s dominance: 115-111, 116-110, and 116-110.
A Scrappy Fight Marred by Fouls
The rematch was a far cry from a clean contest, characterized by a high degree of physicality and multiple infractions. In the seventh round, Mikaelian, 35, had a point deducted for an accidental blow to the back of Jack’s head. The 42-year-old Jack then suffered a point deduction himself in the eighth for a punch delivered after the bell, escalating tensions and requiring intervention from officials and both corners to separate the fighters.
Rematch Redemption
This victory avenges Mikaelian’s narrow loss to Jack in May, where he initially lost the cruiserweight belt. With this win, Mikaelian improves his professional record to 28 wins, three losses, and 31 total fights. Jack’s record now stands at 29 wins, four losses, and three draws across 36 professional bouts.
