Noname Releases Vibrant Music Video for “Sundial” and Continues Book Club Expansion
rapper Noname has unveiled the official music video for “Sundial,” a standout track from her critically acclaimed 2023 album of the same name. Directed by Daren Rabinovitch, the video showcases Noname’s artistic vision with colorful imagery and choreography.
The video opens with Noname riding a bicycle, radiating joy. She is soon joined by “The Creature,” a costumed character who displays energetic dance moves. Noname herself later appears in a bird costume, participating in a choreographed routine alongside The Creature. The lyrics, particularly the opening lines - “somethin’ to spend a life in/ My heart buck out, animated like a Black cookout wit’ Johnny Bravo/ He the white lookout, don’t look up” – are visually interpreted through the video’s dynamic scenes.
“Sundial” and Critical Acclaim
Sundial, released independently in 2023, garnered significant praise for its lyrical depth and innovative sound. Consequence named it one of the best rap albums of the year, highlighting its success despite lacking major label backing. The album explores themes of societal issues, personal reflection, and Black identity.
