Rhode Island travelers now have a new, convenient option for a tropical getaway. Nonstop flights to Cancun, Mexico, are now available from Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) on Breeze Airways.

The inaugural flight departed on Saturday afternoon, with the airport hosting a celebration for passengers. GoLocalProv was present at the gate to witness the launch of the new service.

Matea Marinello, a student at La Salle Academy traveling with her family, expressed her excitement about the ease of the new route. “I’m so excited about how convenient it is to get there from here,” she said. Marinello noted the short travel time to the airport – just 15 minutes from her home in North Kingstown – and the efficient check-in process. “We checked our bags and went through TSA in about 15 minutes. It was easy,” she added.

This marks Breeze Airways’ first venture into international service from PVD, signaling a significant milestone for the airport. According to airport officials, the route is currently scheduled as a seasonal offering.

However, passengers are encouraged to book quickly, as the service is described as “limited-time.” Flights are currently scheduled to conclude in mid-April.

The new route offers a one-way fare starting at $159, according to the airport. Travelers interested in booking flights can do so directly through the Breeze Airways website or through the airport’s website, flyri.com.

The addition of nonstop flights to Cancun builds on Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport’s recent growth. The airport has been recognized as the fastest-growing major airport in the United States for the past two years.

While Breeze Airways is offering the new service, other airlines, such as Southwest, also offer flights from Providence to Cancun, providing travelers with additional options.
