The New Orleans Police Department has launched an investigation into an unclassified death after skeletal remains were discovered inside a duffel bag in a sewer in the Gentilly area.
Officers responded to the scene on April 7, 2026, at approximately 12:33 p.m. Following a report of a suspicious bag located in a storm drain near the intersection of Annette Street and Benefit Street.
Discovery of Remains
The duffel bag was discovered by two children who were riding bicycles in the area. According to reports from WWL Louisiana, the children noticed the bag, opened it, and observed what appeared to be a bone inside.
An employee at a nearby daycare further confirmed that the duffel bag was pulled from the drain.
