NOPD Seek Suspects in French Quarter Gold Chain Snatching
New Orleans police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects involved in a property-snatching incident in the French Quarter. The incident occurred on February 14, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m. In the 400 block of Bourbon Street, according to police.
Investigators say a woman, identified as one of the suspects, distracted the victim by dancing with him before removing a gold chain from around his neck. The chain was then dropped to the ground, where a male accomplice retrieved it. Both suspects then fled the scene, police stated.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans area is bracing for potential severe weather. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to arrive as early as this afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall likely tonight through early morning. A marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center, with wind gusts potentially exceeding 50 mph being the primary concern.
Current temperatures are warm, with Hammond reporting 76 degrees and Grand Isle at 75 degrees. The dew point is a high 71, indicating significant moisture in the air. Satellite imagery shows showers to the west, with a front approaching the area. While the front isn’t expected to bring a significant cool-down, it will trigger rainfall that could continue through Wednesday of next week.
The most intense weather is anticipated between 8 p.m. And 4 a.m. Tonight, with the possibility of 1 to 3 inches of rain and localized flooding. Scattered showers are also expected on Sunday, particularly in the afternoon, though these should diminish by around 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. Temperatures are expected to remain warm through Wednesday, with another chance for rain anticipated at that time, accompanied by windier conditions.
