Starting from pole position, the 25-year-old Norris navigated a challenging race, complicated by new regulations mandating two tire changes. He successfully fended off Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to secure the win, narrowing the gap between himself and teammate Oscar Piastri in the driver standings to a mere three points.
Stella emphasized Norris’ calm demeanor throughout the race.Despite the high stakes and constant interaction with engineers and strategists, Norris maintained his composure.Stella noted that Norris’ high standards and execution were key, building from his practice laps to capitalize on his pole position.
Stella specifically highlighted a stressful moment when Norris navigated back markers, knowing a pit stop was an option.Norris remained calm, followed instructions, and ultimately secured the victory. Stella believes this win is just the begining of many more to come for norris.
Lando kept the high standards, the quality of execution and the lucidity that he has had throughout the weekend… And today he went through various situations which required cold blood,I would say.
Andrea Stella, McLaren Team Principal
While acknowledging the meaning of the Monaco result, Stella downplayed the idea of it being a turning point. He emphasized the ongoing development of both Norris and Piastri, recognizing their different phases and characteristics. Stella anticipates continued growth and success for both drivers, contributing to an exciting future for McLaren and Formula 1.
Regarding Piastri, who finished third, Stella noted his strong speed but pointed out inconsistencies throughout the monaco weekend. He mentioned piastri’s struggles with the car’s nervousness at low speeds, affecting his qualifying performance. Stella stressed the importance of consistency in championships, highlighting Piastri’s ability to secure points even when not at his fastest.
