Norris Silences Critics with Dominant Display: ‘Mini DRS’ No Match for McLaren Ace in Singapore GP Thriller
Lando Norris says McLaren delivered one of its “most dominant” performances at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix amid the rear wing “mini-DRS” controversy.
The wing, which was seen folding at high speed during the last race in Baku, passed FIA tests, but McLaren was asked to modify the part after complaints from rival teams.
Norris hit out at his McLaren rivals after his commanding victory in Singapore, reducing his championship lead over rival Max Verstappen to 52 points with six races remaining.
“We haven’t made any changes to the car since last weekend or the weekend before this one,” Norris said.
“We just had to tweak the wing and a few other things that people were complaining about. But it was still a great weekend and probably one of our most dominant weekends here.”
“Honestly, I don’t think it made a difference, it’s just that the car continued to be fantastic. Even when I felt the car had enough pace and ability, I didn’t get to the front. There were a few times, and part of it is because I didn’t perform well enough due to my own mistakes.”
“So I paid the price for not doing a good enough job sometimes. But sometimes it can be a day like this where you take the lead after Turn 1 and things become a bit easier.”
Norris was in complete control of Sunday’s Grand Prix, but hit the wall twice, the first of which caused minor damage to his front wing.
“The team said there might be something wrong with the front wing. I hit the front wing into the barrier, so maybe that contributed a little bit, but it’s probably not a big deal. I don’t think so,” Norris explained.
“I don’t know. In this car, just changing something can have a pretty big impact. But my feeling is that it probably wasn’t a big deal.”
