Lando Norris hopes to demonstrate that his Monaco victory was no fluke as Formula 1 heads to the Spanish Grand Prix. The McLaren driver aims to solidify his return to top form and reignite his championship challenge.
Norris’s Monaco performance served as a strong response to critics after a mixed run following his Australian Grand Prix win. He once again displayed the qualities that made him a preseason favorite for the drivers’ championship.
Between Melbourne and Monaco, Norris failed to secure a pole position or a race win. Meanwhile, McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri surged ahead, winning four of six races and taking the championship lead. Max verstappen also remained a formidable competitor, winning the other two races.
Norris narrowed Piastri’s lead to just three points with his Monaco victory, setting the stage for an intense intra-team battle as the season progresses. The dynamic between the two McLaren drivers is expected to shift throughout the year.
Following his Monaco win, Norris addressed criticism, stating that much of what was being said was untrue. He has previously expressed frustration with aspects of McLaren’s car.
qualifying had been a challenge for Norris, contrasting with Piastri’s improved consistency. McLaren’s aggressive progress of the MCL39 has resulted in a car that can be difficult to handle, leading to inconsistent performances from Norris.
Norris expressed pride in his record-setting lap in Monaco, emphasizing the importance of regaining his qualifying form. He acknowledged the tough competition and the need to work hard to overcome recent struggles.
The Spanish Grand Prix follows Monaco as the second of three consecutive races. It will serve as a crucial test to determine whether Norris has truly turned a corner or if his form will continue to fluctuate. Scrutiny over flexi front wings could impact McLaren’s advantage, but the team is still expected to be competitive.
Norris admitted he’s not yet at 100%, citing ongoing challenges with the MCL39. He emphasized the need for continued teamwork to maximize results, highlighting differences between this year and last year’s performance.
These races are critical for both Norris and Piastri as their intra-team rivalry intensifies. Comparisons have been drawn to the 2007 season, with Verstappen playing a similar role to Kimi Räikkönen. The Spanish Grand Prix is an possibility for both drivers to make a statement and establish themselves as the leading contender.
“It’s all crap. People can write what they want. It’s not up to me.People have their own opinions, they can do all of those things.Thing is,none of them are true,99% of the time.”

what’s next
A victory in Spain would give Norris the championship lead heading into Canada and the subsequent European races. Another strong performance from Piastri, however, would revive doubts about Norris’s ability to consistently challenge for the Formula 1 title.
