North Carolina A&T Bowling Team Prepares for Bracket Play

The North Carolina A&T bowling team will compete as the No. 5 seed in Sunday’s bracket play at the Colonial Classic, hosted by Tulane University. The team had a 3-2 record during traditional play on Saturday, totaling 4,921 pins and an overall pinfall of 9,987 for an average of 199.7.

Freshman Victorya White stood out as the top performer for A&T, finishing 16th in overall standings with a total of 1,041 pins and an average of 208.20. White, who was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference bowler of the week, spoke about her performance, noting, “The biggest challenge I faced was the transition and what ball to change into.”

A&T’s day started with a tough match against the tournament’s host, Tulane, ranked 13th nationally. A&T lost to Tulane 1,115-987. White led A&T’s efforts with a strong score of 240, while Tianna Jessamine Cruz added 194 pins.

Cruz expressed her feelings about her performance, saying, “I felt I let my team down with the many spares I missed.” She acknowledged that overcoming self-doubt was challenging during the tournament.

Bowler Newberry also found the day hard, stating, “I wasn’t getting the hits I wanted.” In contrast, Burgin felt confident in her execution and noted the team’s challenge of sometimes underestimating their opponents.

Newberry scored 1,002 pins for an average of 200.40, while Cruz concluded with 995 pins, averaging 199.0. Burgin emphasized her pride in the team’s effort: “We had some tough matches but fought until the end.”

Overall, the Aggies are ready to take on the next challenge with determination.
