Dublin Road Closure Following Suspicious Device Discovery
A meaningful traffic artery in Dublin city center experienced a temporary closure on Sunday, January 18th, 2026, after authorities were alerted to a suspicious device. The incident occurred in the North Strand Road area, between the Five Lamps and Fairview.
Device Found in Royal Canal
According to An Garda Síochána, the suspect device was discovered in the royal Canal near Newcomen Bridge at approximately 12:30 PM. A cordon was instantly established, and the defense Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was dispatched to the location.
EOD Team Response and Road Reopening
The Defence Forces EOD team successfully removed the device, and the area was subsequently declared safe. The cordon was lifted, and local diversions were removed, restoring normal traffic flow.
