Northampton Saints Aim for European Momentum
Saints Seek European Glory, Eyeing Redemption Against Castres
Northampton, England – The northampton Saints are setting their sights on European success this season, aiming to build on last year’s campaign and capture their first continental trophy since the 2013-14 Challenge Cup.
“We just want to make memories and see if we can go even further,” said Saints captain Lewis Ludlam.
Though, the road to glory won’t be easy. A tough test awaits northampton next week as they face French powerhouse Castres Olympique.
“Castres coming here, big French pack. Physically, we weren’t there first half (against Gloucester), it’s a big test next week to right some wrongs,” Ludlam added.
The Saints currently sit eighth in the Premiership standings, trailing the playoff spots by 10 points. While retaining their title from last season seems like a long shot, the team remains focused on enhancement and making a deep run in Europe.
One bright spot for Northampton was the return of England scrum-half Alex Mitchell.Making his first appearance of the season after recovering from a neck injury, Mitchell provided a spark off the bench against Gloucester.
“It’s been a tough time for mitch, he picked up this injury, there was a bit of uncertainty on how long he was going to be out for, we knew he’d be back but we didn’t know when,” Ludlam said.
“When he came on it gave us a big boost. He’s obviously excited to be back and brought a lot of tempo to our play in the second half.”
With Mitchell back in the fold and a renewed focus on European competition, the saints are hoping to turn their season around and make a memorable run.
